As much as we work with AEDs and have our first aid trainers and managing director still on the frontline at medical emergencies, it’s still confronting to hear the specifics of a cardiac arrest, like Ray Waite, who “dropped down dead” at his local pub and is only here today because his workmates from the Mataura Valley Milk plant had used the bar’s defibrillator to resuscitate him.
“That was the big thing, that they had that there. Otherwise I’d still be dead. They did a great thing, those fellas,” he says.
Where’s your nearest AED/defib? Close enough for someone to access if it’s needed? Thank goodness there was one nearby for Ray Waite’s mates to use on him at the Longford Tavern in Gore, otherwise he probably wouldn’t be here to enjoy 2018. AEDs save lives! Let’s get more of them around NZ!
